It’s April, and the wretched Spring weather in the coming weeks will likely destroy any outdoor activities…so instead of going outside and drowning and freezing…the time is right to get to the theatre, as the month is busy playing in genres of drama, action, and horror. Here’s what’s coming to the big screen in April:
MONKEY MAN – Actor Dev Patel (LION, SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE), makes his directorial debut and also stars in this action thriller as a young man who dives into the underground to avenge his family. Sharlto Copley co-stars.
THE FIRST OMEN – This Legacy Prequel serves as backstory to the classic horror film THE OMEN from 1976. Bill Nighy stars.
WICKED LITTLE LETTERS – This story follows the investigation into crude letters sent anonymously to residents of Littlehampton, England in the 1920’s. Olivia Colman stars.
THE BEAST – Former Bond Girl Lea Seydoux (NO TIME TO DIE), stars in this sci-fi thriller where DNA can be purified to purge all feelings. George MacKay (1917), co-stars.
CIVIL WAR – Visionary director Alex Garland (EX MACHINA), directs this thriller which follows a team of journalists traveling across America…which is about to fall into a second Civil War. Kirsten Dunst stars.
STING – Giant spiders take to the big screen in this horror flick.
ARCADIAN – Nic Cage protects his twin sons from night creatures in an apocalyptic world in this horror-thriller.
ABIGAIL – Another horror flick, where kidnappers abduct a young girl…only to find out she’s a vampire. Dan Stevens (TV’S DOWNTON ABBEY), and Kathryn Newton (ANT-MAN 3), star.
THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE – Guy Ritchie (SHERLOCK HOLMES), directs this spy comedy which heavily fictionalizes a secret WWII operation. Henry Cavill (MAN OF STEEL), leads the way.
SASQUATCH SUNSET – Jesse Eisenberg (THE SOCIAL NETWORK), and Riley Keough (PATERNO), star in this surreal comedy which follows a family of Sasquatch over a year.
CHALLENGERS – Acclaimed director Luca Guadagnino (CALL ME BY YOUR NAME), returns with this romantic sports-drama about a tennis prodigy caught in a love triangle. It stars Zendaya (DUNE), and Josh O’Connor (THE CROWN).
